Eenie, Meany and Mighty

Three New Chickens Join the Coop

Meet Eenie, Meanie and Mighty

Three new chickens have joined the Farmcolony Chicken Coop.  Meet Eenie, Meanie and Mighty, Mighty because she is mighty hard headed.  You’ve heard of the strong-willed child.  Well, Mighty is the strong-willed chicken.  When the time would come to put the hens into the chicken truck to roost for the night, Eenie and Meany happily complied by walking up the ramp and into the chicken truck to settle in for the night.  Not Mighty!  Committee members would have to chase Mighty around the truck a few times until they could pen her, grab her and push her through the door of the truck.  We all love our strong-willed children.

Eenie, Meanie and Mighty are known as Red Stars, a breed of chicken known to be easy to raise and which lay lots of large brown eggs.  For the money-counters, Red Stars have a good feed-conversion ratio.  Although new to the coop, Eenie, Meanie and Mighty are already contributing to the daily egg count.

If you visit the coop, be sure to say hello to the Red Stars.  You can tell them by their white-tipped tail and the green bands around their legs that help keep track of their age.  And thank them for their big brown eggs, if you can catch them.

Eenie and Meanie are rewarded for their good behavior. Where’s Mighty?
No fence can keep Mighty in. What’s Mighty doing in the goat shed, wonders Madiba the Goat?
Mighty learned quickly that committee members could not reach her under the truck. It took a broomstick to force her out from under for the pursuit to begin.
