Farmcolony Welcomes New Families to the Farm

Lisa and DJ Gano

Olivia, Madelyn, Westley

Thank you for the welcome!

We bought the Higgins home: 61 Farmview Rd. We have lovingly named our home Greene Gables! DJ and I grew up in Bunker Hill, WV, and have been married for 17 years. DJ just retired after 20 years of active duty service from the Air Force. He has his MBA in Project Management and took a job with NGIC. I have my BS and MA in education. I taught at a private school for three years in TX and have been homeschooling our children for the past five years.  Our children: Olivia 13, Madelyn 11, Westley 1.

We’re so excited to contribute to the farm. We used to have chickens so the children and I signed up for the chicken committee and DJ wants to help with the cows and hay!

Robyn and Maan Hashem

Meg, Nora, Sarah

Robyn and Maan Hashem purchased 572 Farmview from Julie Haddix in June and have been coming down on alternating weekends since that time.

Maan own his own small data analytics consultancy in the Washington DC area, helping mission-driven organizations use data to drive decision-making.  Robyn heads the development technology team at the Aspen Institute, a non-partisan think tank dedicated to promoting values-based leadership and discourse in the public realm.

The Hashems are 25 year residents of McLean, Virginia, where they raised their three daughters:  Meg (23) is a recent graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington with a B.S. in human resources management, Nora (21) is a rising senior at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where she is studying chemistry, and Sarah (19) is a rising sophomore at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where she is studying art history.

Meg is currently employed at the Canadian Embassy in Washington as an HR associate, and is living at home.  Nora and Sarah live at their respective campuses.

Last, but not least, Bear Hashem (8) is a relaxed and gentle German Shepherd / Rottweiler/ Coonhound mix, or all-round mutt.  You may have met Bear at the July 4 party this summer.

As Maan and Robyn figure out life as they become empty nesters, they are excited to join the Farmcolony community, and want to pitch in on the farm when they visit on the weekends.  Maan has already started assisting Bill Bohn with fences and mowing, and Robyn will be working with Ann Bohn on assorted farmhouse projects.
